Unstable SMP Locations

The landmarks players look for on the public server at unstablesmp.io - what each place is and how to use it.

Updated

Capital City on Unstable SMP

Capital City

The tallest build in the world map and the most recognisable landmark on the server. The main tower rises far above the surrounding skyline and is visible from spawn.

Arrive by day so the skyline is readable, then come back after dark to see the lit district from the plaza.

Highwater City on Unstable SMP

Highwater City

A dense coastal city built up a cliff face, with layered roads, docks and a harbour district that connects to the water routes.

Follow the cliff road rather than cutting across the blocks - the paths are built for fast travel between districts.

Highwater City Cave on Unstable SMP

Highwater City Cave

The cave network beneath Highwater City. It connects the underground routes and is one of the main mining and travel corridors on the server.

Carry torches and blocks. Bring a bed - cave routes get long when you are underground for a full session.

ClownPierce Castle on Unstable SMP

ClownPierce Castle

A castle build from the ClownPierce set, popular as a mid-game base location because of its defensible footprint and surrounding open ground.

The open ground around the walls makes this a good first base. Claim it early if you plan to expand.

Merchant City on Unstable SMP

Merchant City

The trading hub of the server. Player-run stalls line the main routes, making it the fastest place to sell materials and buy gear.

Traders restock at different times. Visit more than once a session instead of assuming an empty stall is permanent.

Spawn on Unstable SMP

Spawn

The default arrival point for new players, and the main orientation area. Orientation markers and the first set of directions are found here.

Read the spawn rules before teleporting out. New-player protection is granted for a short window after your first join.

More places players search for

These come up in almost every conversation about the world, so they are documented here even without a screenshot.

Also called farlands, far lands, world border

Farlands / Far Lands

The generated world border where terrain stops and the chunk-generation artefacts begin. One of the most recognisable destinations on the server and a frequent endpoint for long-running exploration series.

Travel tip
Also called underground, the caves, cave network

The Underground

The deep cave and tunnel systems connecting the surface world. Mining, underground bases and travel corridors between the main cities run through here.

Travel tip
Also called northern council, the council

Northern Council

A player- and event-run administrative district near spawn, used as a meeting point and stage for community events and civilisations on the server.

Travel tip
Also called ffa, pvp arena, free for all

FFA / Free-for-all arena

The dedicated PvP arena area. Combat is allowed across the whole server, but FFA is where most organised fights happen.

Travel tip

Spelling note: the tallest city is called Capital City on the server and is also written Capitol City in older community guides. Both refer to the same place. Searching either spelling will bring you here.

Planning a first session

Most new players do the same thing on their first day: spawn, orient, claim land, then head for a landmark. A reasonable order is:

  1. Read the spawn orientation markers before teleporting anywhere.
  2. Claim a base away from the main roads so you are not building in a footpath.
  3. Visit Merchant City once you have something worth trading - even a few stacks of logs sell.
  4. Walk to Capital City once you have a bed. It is a long walk and you will want somewhere to sleep.
  5. Set up at ClownPierce Castle or similar if you want a defensible enclosed base.

Travel notes

  • Carry torches and blocks on any trip underground or through the cave network.
  • Follow built roads where they exist - they are marked for fast travel and are safer than cutting across terrain.
  • Bring a bed and a compass rather than relying on coordinates. Landmarks are easier to find than a number.
  • With 14,000 slots, you will meet other players on the road. Most are travelling, not raiding - but lock your doors.

Community locations and builds change over time as the world is edited. If something here looks different from what you see in game, the in-game build is the current version and this page is a general guide.
