Unstable SMP

Is Unstable SMP on Bedrock?

No. Unstable SMP runs on Minecraft Java Edition only. There is no Bedrock port, and adding one will not connect.

Updated

You will see a lot of sites claiming Unstable SMP has Bedrock support, usually with a port number. They are wrong. Unstable SMP has never run a Bedrock listener, so there is no port to connect to and no way to make it work.

Why Bedrock does not work

Bedrock Edition and Java Edition are separate games with separate protocols, separate server software, and separate netcode. A Java server does not answer Bedrock clients. There are two ways a server can support both:

  • Run a translation proxy such as Geyser or ViaBedrock, which sits in front of the Java server and converts the protocol. That is extra infrastructure and extra latency, and it is not something this server runs.
  • Run a separate native Bedrock server, which is a completely different world with its own player base, its own economy and its own progression. Players on a Java world cannot simply appear on it.

Unstable SMP does neither. It is a Java world, and it is a Java world on purpose.

If you only play on Bedrock

You have three realistic options, in order of how well they will work for you:

  1. Use Minecraft Java Edition on PC, Mac or Linux. This is the only version where the actual Unstable SMP world exists. On a Windows PC it is a normal launcher install, and it is free to play on a legitimate account.
  2. Play on a Bedrock server instead. Plenty of large servers are native Bedrock and are listed on the same directories. You will find them under the Bedrock filter.
  3. Watch the creators. The same content that brings people to the server is published on YouTube by Wemmbu, FlameFrags, ParrotX2 and Spoke, and that plays on any device.

On Bedrock, servers are usually saved as a name plus an address plus a port. If a page gives you a port for Unstable SMP, that page is describing a different server. The only address for this one is unstablesmp.io, on Java, with no port.

Common questions

Does Unstable SMP support Bedrock Edition?

No. Unstable SMP is Java Edition only. Bedrock, console and mobile are not supported, and there is no Bedrock port.

What is the Unstable SMP Bedrock IP?

There isn't one. No Bedrock listener exists on this server, so no Bedrock address or port will connect. The Java address is unstablesmp.io.

Can I use Geyser or ViaBedrock to join?

You cannot join this server through a local translation proxy, because the server itself does not accept Bedrock protocol connections at all. A proxy in front of a Java server does not make the server Bedrock-capable.

Is there a console or mobile version of Unstable SMP?

No. Console and mobile clients run Bedrock Edition, so they cannot connect to a Java-only server.
