How to Join Unstable SMP in 2026

From cold to connected takes under a minute. Here is the whole thing, then what to do when you are in.

Before you start

The steps

1. Install and launch Minecraft Java Edition, and sign in with your account.
2. Click Multiplayer on the main menu.
3. Click Add Server.
4. Enter unstablesmp.io as the server address. This is the whole address - do not add a port and do not add a prefix.
5. Give the entry a name, click Done, then select it and click Join Server.

Your first five minutes

1. Read the orientation markers at spawn before you teleport anywhere.
2. Gather wood, food and a bed. You will want the bed before you travel far.
3. Claim a base away from the main roads. Plenty of players start in the same place, and that is fine, and also not fine.
4. Visit Merchant City once you have something worth trading. It is a real player-run economy, not a decorative district.
5. Read the rules before you swing at anyone. PvP is enabled and it is not a minigame server.

If it does not work

Four things cause almost every failed connection, in the order worth checking them:

1. You are on Java Edition. Bedrock, console and mobile cannot connect to this server at all.
2. Your client is 1.21.1+ or newer. Older clients are refused rather than downgraded, so update and retry.
3. The address reads exactly unstablesmp.io, with no port and nothing before or after it.
4. Your account is legitimate and signed in. Cracked launchers and shared logins fail authentication.
